Before Source was released, I spent a lot of time playing WarCraft III, aspiring to become a good player. For those who have played WC3 competitively, you probably know that there are plenty of places where you can download replay (aka a demo) commentaries from pro players. Basically, you watch a replay while listening to an mp3 of the pro player analyzing the moves and strategy of the player in the replay. Watching these helped me get a much deeper understanding for the game and taught me how to think at a much higher strategic level. I thought to myself, “why are there no places to download Counter-Strike commentaries?” That's when the idea to create this site was born.
My name is Jon Mumm – I go by alias “juan” in-game. I’m twenty-one years old and currently attend the University of Wisconsin where I’m studying computer science and aspire to become a software engineer. I grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where I spent lots of my time playing sports, hanging with friends, tinkering with computers, and cheering on the Packers.
I’ve been playing Counter-Strike competitively since 2001. In 2004, I switched to playing Source, hoping to get a head start on the competition. I began a team named verGe, comprising mostly of local players, which ended up being widely successful throughout its two and a half year existence.
My first major feat as a gamer came in October 2005 when the team I had created defeated the defending CPL Champions, Powers Gaming, to win NewEgg DigitalLife in New York City. I haven’t looked back since. In fact, the teams that I have led have consistently been ranked among the top three teams in North America since January 2006 according to the GotFrag Official Rankings. That is over three years of being on top of the game. I’ve spent that time refining my leadership skills and learning more about the correct way to approach the game.
Teams (and rosters) that I have led:
- verGe gaming: juan, n0it, paradox, helix, cannon, struk
- ForbiddeN: juan, n0it, paradox, mustang, struk
- Pandemic: juan, n0it, paradox, mustang, griff
Current team:
- 3D.NY: juan, n0it, ksharp, volcano, method
